After traveling extensively through Northern Africa and Spain, George Metz decided he needed a Moorish villa of his own. Built in 1900, Villa Kathrine’s outward design is based on the Villa ben Ahben in Morocco with details from the Giralda in Seville, Spain, and topped with a miniature replica of the minaret from the Mosque of Thais in Tunisia. Today the mansion is the home of the Quincy Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and a Great River Road Interpretive Center.
