Ulysses S. Grant Home State Historic Site

In 1865 when General Ulysses S. Grant returned to Galena as a Civil War hero, he was presented this furnished, Italianate home as a gift. It has been restored to its 1868 appearance and contains many of the Grant family’s original furnishings, including Grant’s favorite chair. Today, interpreter lead tours focus on Grant as a victorious war hero, a candidate, and as the 18th President of the United States.
