No shopping expedition in Illinois would be complete without a trip to Galena’s famed Main Street. Voted one of “America’s Best Main Streets” by Fodor’s Travel, the street is lined with more than 100 19th century storefronts offering everything from home décor and apparel to root beer and popcorn. Set among the city’s historic architecture, Quincy’s The District offers an array of shopping possibilities, including stores featuring locally made products. Art lovers will enjoy a stroll down Makanda’s historic boardwalk. Dating back to the 1890s, it features galleries, quality handcrafts created by local artisans, and a country store. Whether it's big box stores or quaint boutiques, the Great River Road offers plenty of opportunities for retail adventure.
