Lofty cliffs, caves and intriguing rock formations abound in this 2,500 acre park. A 15 mile trail system winds its way through the park, including 4 trails that lead to scenic overlooks of the mighty Mississippi. Mississippi Palisades is one of few Illinois State Parks which allow rock climbing and numerous climbing routes make their way up the rocks. 241 class A and B camp sites are available, 110 with electrical hookups. A Mississippi River boat launch, across Illinois Route 84 from the north entrance, offers access to abundant fishing for catfish, carp, bluegill, crappie and bass as well as northern pike and walleye for the more experienced angler. Hunting is available for deer and turkey. Winter visitors can enjoy cross country skiing, sledding, and ice fishing. The interesting rock formations and scenic overlooks provide beautiful views of foliage in the fall and eagle watching in the winter months.
