St. Clair, Monroe & Randolph counties, Cahokia IL 62206
ILLINOISouth Tourism

This route follows Illinois’ first road. Its origins can be traced back 8,000 years to prehistoric Native Americans, whose movements created the trail for sustenance, trade, social and religious purposes. Today the route travels the American bottoms of the Mississippi to the Ozark Hills landscape and passes many of the region’s most recognizable historical attractions: Fort de Chartres, Maeystown, the Kaskaski Bell State Memorial, Cahokia Courthouse and Cahokia Holy Family Church.
