Johnson Creek Recreation Area is located on the northwest finger of Kinkaid Lake. The recreation area has a boat ramp but due to water depth it is suitable for small water craft only, such as canoes, kayaks, or small fishing boats. Fishing in Kinkaid Lake offers excellent opportunities for crappie and muskie and good fishing for largemouth bass, channel cat, and walleye among others. The campground is open to regular campers and equestrian campers alike. It features large campsites, hitching posts, water, and double and triple sites for larger groups. Several hiking and equestrian trails are accessible from the campground and lead to the extensive Kinkaid Lake trail system.
