Known as the Gateway to "Giant City State Park," Makanda has become an affordable place for artists to create and display their work downtown in shops along the historic boardwalk. This boardwalk dates back to the 1890s. Today it offers galleries featuring quality handcrafts created by local artisans and a country store.
