Locks & Dams

Visit a working lock and dam on the Mississippi River. Head to Melvin Price Locks & Dam 26 to see one of the largest locks and dam on the Mississippi, and don't miss the view of the river from eight stories above the water! Head to Lock and Dam 21 to view the river from the observation deck and see bald eagles in the winter. See barges filled with corn, soybeans, grain and other commodities moving through these massive structures built on the river. The Mississippi River Visitor Center is located at Lock and Dam 15 and affords a panoramic view of the river along with a tour of the lock and dam.

Locks and Dams are also one of the best places to bird watch. View bald eagles (mid-November through March), pelicans, ospreys, and several species of gulls and terns during spring and fall migration.
